1. Poor water quality is the most common environmental disease; low oxygen and high ammonia kill most.

   Test the water today before buying a remedy.

2. Routine targets: TAN 0, nitrite 0, oxygen > 5 mg/L.

   If ammonia or nitrite is detectable, test daily.

3. New-tank syndrome happens before the filter oxidizes ammonia. Maturing can take about 6 weeks.

   Do not stock a new tank all at once.
